11-12 month old Simmental steers from the Bailey family at Brackley, Northants


Kicking off we start at Thame Farmers Auction Mart on 18th February, where quality 11-12 month old Simmental steers from the Bailey family at Brackley, Northants sold to a cracking £1185.

At Thainstone on 17th February, Aberdeen & Northern Marts had 81 Store Cattle forward from Orkney Consignors. Heifers sold to a top of £1,510 gross and 282.7p per kg for a pair of 534kg Simmental from W R Baillie & Co, Biggings, Toab.

At Rugby Farmers Mart on 17th February the trade for cows was led at £1708 for a 746kg Simm from WR Keeves & Son.
C&D Auction Marts held their weekly sale of primestock in Dumfries on Wednesday 16th February 2022. The per kilo prices were led by Simm bullocks from Cormaddie at 180p.

On 16th February at Frome’s sale of prime cattle Simmentals featured in the top prices. In the UTM steers, another outstanding run from Waddon Farm Ltd saw Simmentals to £1473 and £1415 or 219.50p/kg and 216.50p/kg. In the bulls, a run of UTM Simmentals from the Tucker family of Devizes topped at 188.50p/kg or £1302. In the sale of cull cows, a run of hardy Simmentals from Tuckmarsh Farm really stole the show selling to £1304, £1122 and £1091.

At Market Drayton’s store cattle sale on 16th February, younger cattle continued to sell well and saw a 554kg Simmental from Mr David Bradshaw sell at £1,235.00 to feature in the top prices.

Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., small sale of prime cattle on 15th February at Dingwall, prime heifers averaged 234.5p and sold to £1,478.40 gross for a 640kg Simmental cross from Lyne of Urchany Farm, Nairn selling to Messrs John M Munro Ltd, Dingwall.
At Thirsk’s store cattle sale on 15th February, a fantastic show of top quality were very much in demand as prices continued to rise, resulting in a top price of £1545 for Simmental X steers from BW & AM Mook, Flaxton.

In a sale of young calves and stirks at Lawrie & Symington’s Lanark Market on 14th February, the trade for all types was dearer on the fortnight. Stirks topped at £580 for a Simmental bullock from The Murrays.

Andrew and George Palk of Paignton saw their usual well bred and fed Simmental cattle sell to £1294 (564kg x 230ppk) for a steer and £1336 (590kg x 227ppk) for their heifer, to feature in the top prices at Exeter’s sale of prime cattle on 14th February.
At Gisburn’s sale of store and breeding cattle on 12th February, a run of 10 Simmental bulls from Stephen Duckworth topped at £920 for a smart pen of flashy bulls. In calf cattle were also well bid for with a Simmental cow from George Simpson selling to a high of £1040.

At Aberdeen & Northern Marts sale of Store Cattle, and Adult Breeding Cattle on 11th February, In- Calf Heifers sold to £1,780 for Simmental crosses from Backmuir, Keith.

At Exeter’s sale of 343 store cattle on 11th February, an excellent quality line up of store cattle sold to an even stronger strong trade with all types in demand. Best of the store steers topped at £1485 for a grand Simmental (21m) from Jess White of Sandford with other smart Simmental bred bullocks born around the same to £1390 for Andrew and George Palk of Paignton and younger (17m) ones off the same farm reaching £1280.

At Newton Stewart on 11th February, Craig Wilson Ltd’s store cattle sale saw 67 heifers average 233.5p, peaking at 289p for a pen of Simmental Crosses from J & A McCornick, Drumjargon, Whauphill. 57 Dairy Bred Steers Averaged 227.9p peaking at £1095 for 14 Fleckvieh Cross from R & S Archibald, Glaick, Leswalt and to 236p again for Fleckvieh Cross from Glaick.

At NWA’s sale of store cattle at Lancaster on 11th February, Simms were to the fore at the top end of prices with the consignment from EJ Ward & Sons, Nether Kellet selling to £1450 for a Simmental bullock.

In the sale of prime cattle at Stirling Caledonian Mart on 10th February, Prime Bullocks sold to a top gross of £1767 for a 930kg Simmental from J Brown, Greencraig, Falkirk.

At the top end of the store cattle sale at Shrewsbury on 10th February, 655kg Simms made £1380 for J E Griffiths & Co
In a sale of OTM cattle on 10th February from Caithness, Ross-shire, and Highlands consignors at Thainstone, cast bulls sold to £1,870 and 154p per kg for a 1210kg Sim Bull from W Barnetson & Sons, Lynegar, Watten. In a sale of prime cattle on the same day, the heifer trade per head was led at £1,713.90, by a Sim from Darley.

At Dingwall on 9th February, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd, sold 831 store cattle, 99 adult head of breeding cattle and 129 OTM cattle. Bullocks (528) averaged 242.9p and sold to £1,340 gross for a 640kg Simmental from 17 Englishtonmuir, Bunchrew. Heifers (288) averaged 232.7p and sold to £1,380 gross for a 650kg Simmental cross from Clury Farm, Dulnain Bridge. In calf cows (87) sold to £1,640 gross twice for Simmental cross cows from the dispersal of the Easter Urray Farm, Muir of Ord herd.

At Frome’s sale of prime cattle on 9th February, the UTM steers saw a belting run of Simmentals from Waddon Farm Ltd sold to 217.50p/kg and 213.50p/kg or £1449 and £1437.

At Thainstone on 9th February, Aberdeen and Northern Marts sold 112 Head of Adult Breeding Cattle. Cows with Bull Calf sold to £2,100 for a Simmental cross with Simmental cross from Newbigging, Tornaveen. Cows with Heifer Calf sold to £1,900 (twice) for Simmental crosses with Aberdeen Angus’ from Abergeldie Castle, Crathie. Breeding Bulls sold to £2,900 for a Simmental from Newbigging.

In a sale of OTM cattle at Holmfirth on 8th February, cows sold to 146p/kg (£1043.90) for a 71 month Simmental from F Helliwell, sold to Hartshead Meats 2011 Ltd.

Aberdeen and Northern Marts sold 292 Store & Breeding Cattle on 7th February at Quoybrae, Caithness. Breeding cattle sold to £1,900 for a Simmental cross in calf cow from Hilliclay Mains, Thurso.

At Lawrie and Symington’s Lanark Market on 7th February the trade for beef cows was led by a Simmental from Newsteading at 182ppkg, and to £1575.

On the 7th February, the trade for cows at Rugby Farmers Mart was led by a 790kg Simmental at £1438 from J Windridge & Son.
C & D Auction Marts held their fortnightly store cattle sale in Dumfries on Monday 7th February 2022. A group attendance of active buyers were present with trade surpassing sellers expectations. Heifers per head were led by a Simm at £1200 from High Auchneel.
