Simmentals sell to 3000gns at Ludlow

Tilbrook Mason, an exceptional son of Salisbury Challenger, was the Champion at the British Simmental Cattle Society sale at Ludlow on 9th May and topped the market at 3000guineas.
Brought out by Mr Peter Burgess, Daventry, Northamptonshire and was purchased by Mr Michael Mercer for his 400 cow commercial Simmental herd near Leominster.
” Michael Mercer produces exceptional stock and achieves this through buying top quality sires,” explains Roger Trewhella, general secretary of the British Simmental Cattle Society. ” Today’s purchase of Tilbrook Mason will have been one of the best bulls we have seen at a sale for some time and represents excellent value for money.”
In total 15 Simmental bulls sold to average £1638 which shows steady improvement on last year’s first sale at the venue when 8 bulls were traded to level at £1696.
First Prize winner and Reserve Champion, Shellthorn Norman, from Mr and Mrs Andy Grossey, Ilminster, Somerset was a well muscled compact animal.
Successful purchaser was Mr Simon Vaughan, Kington, Herefordshire, another repeat buyer for the Simmental breed for use in a large cow herd.
” This was a good show of bulls and there was keen interest around the ringside,” commented Roger Trewhella. ” This is a venue in the heart of good cattle country, and we look forward to continuing with such progress here over the forthcoming years.”
