AUCHORACHAN MALT WINS THE 2022 SIMMENTAL ‘VIRTUAL’ SHOW MALE CHAMPIONSHIP

It’s a ‘big up’ and hearty congratulations to D & R Durno & Sons, Ballindalloch, Banffshire, whose March 2021 born bull Auchorachan Malt 21 has been judged as the Male Champion in this year’s Simmental ‘Virtual’ Show.
Entirely homebred, Auchorachan Malt is by the noted Auchorachan Hercules 16, whose sons averaged £10,500 in 2021 and have sold up to a top price to date of 18,000gns. Auchorachan Malt’s dam is Auchorachan Hilly 8 EX90, a daughter of the 9,000gns Team Fergus 14 EX91. Auchorachan Malt’s Championship win saw him prevail from over 100 Simmental bulls entered across the three classes.
Judging the Male Championship was Simon Key who runs the noted Key herd at Abbey Farm, Mundham, Loddon, Norwich and who commented: “Firstly, I’d like to thank the British Cattle Simmental Society for asking me to judge the Overall Male Championship in this year’s Virtual Show. Secondly, a big well done to everyone who has entered this fun competition and had a go. As ‘amateur snappers’ it’s very difficult to take that spot-on picture that you’re entirely happy with and does your animal full justice. However, a great entry again that continues to highlight and promote the Simmental breed so well.
The three first prize bulls in the Championship line-up are a credit to their breeders and owners, and I’m sure each will do a fantastic job if they are put forward to sell at a sale, or to be used at home in their respective herds. It was a tough decision as all are top bulls and look to have different strengths and characteristics.
In his picture the Overall Champion Auchorachan Malt really looks a long bull, clean through the middle, and from the angle well-muscled with a good second thigh. He just had the edge for me in a very close competition, and well done to the Durno team. Lastly, I’d just like to say that the Simmental ‘Virtual’ Show has once again been great to follow, and with the entries again being a credit to all.”
A big thank you is extended to Simon for his judging and his warm comments.
