15 bulls sold to average £2576.00 with an 83% clearance
Strong demand for bulls was evident at the Annual Spring show & sale, at Bristol on Thursday 14th April 2011, which was judged by Mr John Dykes, Mendick Herd.
Topping the trade at 3750gns was Hemingford Abbot 09, exhibited by Mr J A Griffin & Mrs S Arkley, sired by Hemingford Vincent sired by Starline Klassik.
2nd Top priced bull also took the Male Champion of the day exhibited by Mr & Mrs R J & B E Kimber, Beanhill Banker sired by Beeches Kestrel sold for 3300gns.
Selling at 3150gns was Taurus Amazon, exhibited by Alstone Ptnrs, Messrs Loud, sired by Taurus Viking, with Hooray Henry on the dams side.
The Reserve Male Champion, exhibited by W R Eales, went to Peatling Admiral sired by Greenfields Viper, which realised 2350gns.
The Top Price Female went to Messrs Booth & Bell with Crackley Cadette 106T + CAF by Lamhoj Supery and purchased for 2100gns.
The Female Champion, exhibited by Mr D Bush went to Chapman Trientalis’s Ash who was by Heywood Statesman, purchased for 1700gns.
The Reserve Female went to Mr & Mrs A S & Y A Leedham, with Grangewood Anatasia which realised 2000gns.

Inaugural Society Show and Sale at Newark Livestock Market on Saturday 9th April 2011.
Judged by Mr Denis Mitchell, Station Farm, Thursford, Fakenham, Norfolk.
Overall Champion was Theberton Augustus, an AI son of Kilbride Farm Newry from Mr & Mrs LJ Dowley,Theberton House, Theberton, Leiston, Suffolk, sold for 3600 guineas. Capping an excellent day for the Theberton stable they took the Female Championship as well with Theberton Amber 2nd, a Burghbridge Nero daughter selling for 2600 guineas.
Topping the trade on the day was Thursford Treble 34th, this Blair Rory daughter which wasn’t shown realised 4600 guineas was sold to C R Fovargue Bros, Bottom Farm, Colerton, Leicester, joining their Edroda herd.
Reserve Overall Champion Midhope Augustus , a Dirnanean Snowie son sold for 1900 guineas.

110 Bulls sold to a sales average of £4409.00. 39 Females sold to a sales average of £2266.92
Spring Sale at Stirling held at United Auctions 21st February 2011, the Judge was Mr Stuart Stronach SNR from Berrylees, Keith (Islavale Herd).
A strong commercial based trade led to a clearance of 78% which remains the highest clearance so far from all breeds this spring and an average of £4409.00 for 110 bulls sold. Leading price on the day was for Denizes Amazon bred by Michael Barlow, an Ashland Tornado son who sold for 17,000gns to Mr G Van De Gucht to join his Deerhurst Herd in Apperley, Gloucestershire. Denizes Amazon has a TSI +24 and SRI +27.
Second Top Price went to Auchorachan ACDC this Saltire Talent son bred by D & R Durno & Sons sold for 12,000gns into the 160 cow herd of Delfur Farms, Dundurcas Farms, Rothes, Banffshire, he has a TSI +24 and an SRI +29.
Junior Champion and Third Top Priced Bull, Killynure Actionman bred by R S R Porter and exhibited by L A Richardson, sired by Omorga Murray and sold at 10,000gns into the commercial enterprise of Jim Innes of Dunscroft.
Next best and entering Andrew and Yvonne Leedham’s, Grangewood herd of Pedigree Cattle herd was Omorga Alonso, bred by Mr H J W Moore, he sold for 9,500gns, this Omorga Murray son had a TSI +23 and SRI +28.
Also selling well was Drumsleed Axel by Hockenhull Matthew, he was bred by Mr G W Smith and was purchased by Goldie Farms, Blairgowrie, Perthshire for 8,500gns, he had a TSI of +30 and a SRI +38.
Overall & Senior Champion, Copper Mill Admiral by Milnafua Keystone bred by Mr & Mrs P & C M Goldsbrough, was purchased by Mr L Muir, Upper Ornston, Orkney for 4,200gns, with a TSI +15 ad an SRI +16
Reserve Overall and Reserve Senior Champion, Blackford Apollo by Blackford Valmer bred by Mr W G Machperson, was purchased by Greg Farms, Fife for 5,000gns with a TSI +14 and SRI +17
The females which were judged on the Sunday evening also sold well. Topping the trade with Denizes Nelly, an AI daughter of Dripsey Super King bred by M A Barlow, purchased by Jimmy and Vikki Woods for their Popes Herd for 9,200gns this has a TSI +26 and a SRI +33. Next best at 3,300gns was Braegarrie Aronde an AI daughter of Sterling Flint, bred by D L & S Currie and purchased by A Bethell, Brindle, with a TSI of +22 and SRI +20. Third top price out of Draft from Skerrington Mains, was Skerrington Rebecca 44th by Popes Tonka, bred by Mr J Young and purchased by Mr C Inglis, fro his Greencap herd of Burntisland, Fife for 3000gns.
In total 39 females to average £2266,92, the drafts from Dirnanean sold 5 to avrg £2205.00 Skerrington sold 11 to avrg £2267.00 and Westridge sold 3 to arvg £1382.50.

As with the Autumn sales this year, Buyers were selective and well grown bulls ready to work were easiest sold.
Top price on the day 4300gns went to S&C Evans 21 Shoemaker Close, Astcote Towcaster Northamptonshire for Astcote Auctioneer, a Blackford Hawk son who was also the Reserve Supreme Champion, the same herd also had the 2nd top price of 4100gns for Astcote Atlas another Blackford Hawk son.
Supreme and male Champion Chestermann Adam, a Blackford Ringleader son from N&N Gwynne,Rhos-ddu, Crymych, Pembrokeshire sold at 3100gns.
Also at 3100gns was Blackpool Angus, a May 2009 son of Samark Superman form J David Loftus, Lodge Farm, Thistleton, Kirkham, Lancs
11 bulls sold to average £2591.59.
Female Champion, Beetly Wagtail out of Milnafua Kaspar from SD Abram High House Farm, Beetley, Dereham, Norfolk sold for 1800gns, the reserve female champion Pasturehouse Maltesers Flora form JB & EJ Peile, Pastyre House, Bolton Low Houses, Wigton, Cumbria was unsold.

Commercial buyers drove the trade in what was a fantastic show of Simmental Bulls at Stirling, bulls were much sought after in the 4,000-7000gn price range.
86 Bull sold to average £4358.72
Judge for the day was Liam Muir, Upper Onston, Stromness, Orkney.
Topping the sale at 12,000gns was Senior Champion Starline Apollo with a TSI of +24 and SRI of +31, a January 2009 son and first offered for sale of 20,000gn Slievenagh Talisman the Reserve Overall Champion in October 2007 from Henry and Susan Widdicombe, Ashprington Court, Totnes, Devon, buyer was Mr J Jeffrey, Kersknowe, Kelso, Roxburghshire.
Next best, sold at 11,000gns was Reserve Overall and Reserve Junior Champion Drumacritten Arnold 09 with a TSI of +23 and a SRI of +27, a May 2009 son of Raceview King from Mr W. E. Nelson, Drumacritten, Rosslea, Co Fermanagh, this one went to the Dunbar family, Pitgaveny Farms, Elgin for their commercial suckler herd.
The Overall and Junior Champion Drumlone Anchor 09, a May 2009 son of Siegfried, a bloodline which is over 30 years old from Mr K C Veitch sold at 10,000gns to Mr W.E.Nelson, Drumacritten and Mr A Richardson, Cleenagh. Anchor has a TSI of +19 and SRI of +29.
Intermediate Champion Drumsleed Ace 09, an April 2009 son of Hockenhull Matthew, with a milk figure of +7 and TRI of +28 and SRI of +36 from Gerald, Morag and Douglas Smith, Drumsleed, Fourdon, Laurencekirk, Kincardinehsire, realised 8,500gns and sold to Snaigow Farming, Hillocks of Clunie, Blairgowrie,Perthshire.
Next best sold at 8,000gns Delfur Avenger 09, with a TSI of +35 and a SRI of +40, an April 2009 son of Delfur Prime Cut form Delfur Farms, Dundurcas, Rothes, Aberlour , Banffshire, the buyer was Neil McGeoch, Hazelden Simmentals, Easter Blacklaw, Stewarton.
Two bulls sold at 7500gn, first Midhope Apache, a March 2009 son of Dirnanean Snowie with a TSI of +25 and a SRI of +27, this one went to J.M. Sutherland and son, Stainland, Thurso, Caithness. Also at 7500gn was another from the Smiths at Drumsleed, Drumsleed Amadeus, again out of Hockenhull Matthew with a TSI of +28 and a SRI of +37, sold to Abram Farms, High House Farm, Beetley, East Dereham, Norfolk.
Michael Durno sold Auchorachan Archer by Clonagh Tiger Gallant for 7000gn, with a TSI of +21 and SRI of +21 he went to A.D. Sutherland, Connachie, Elgin.
Class 11, the 3rd class of junior bulls was the star class of the day packed with quality stock with 9 bulls selling to average over 6100gn.
Topping the Female trade was the pre-sale Champion, Thursford Treble 31st , a Blair Rory daughter from the Mitchell Family Trust, Station Farm, Thursford, Fakenham, Norfolk, selling for 5200gns to C R Fovargue Bros, Bottom Farm, Farm Town, Coleorton, Coalville, Leicestershire.
Reserve female Champion Sterling Ritzy’s Anastasia, out of Corrick Kentucky kid from Mr S. Hitchins, Boddingtons Estate Ltd, Boddington, Cheltenham, sold for 3600gn to Mr McCulloch Over Hill House, Armadale, West Lothian.

The Simmental Society Show and Sale held at Bristol Sales Centre on 14th October 2010 saw a fast trade for the females that were on offer.
The highest bid was 2550gns for the Reserve Female Champion ‘Cathedral Shannon’ a 2005 born cow sold with her twin bull calves at foot, she was sold by Mr J Berry of Redruth Cornwall and was purchased by Messrs Jones, Danycapel, Dyrslwyn, Carmarthen.
Mr G Green of Kibworth, Leicester sold their first prize in calf heifer ‘Greenfields Willow’ a Corskie Pilot daughter at 2500gns to D E & D A T Lloyd, Hengoed, Kidwelly, Carmarthen.
The Female Champion a maiden heifer ‘Boars Head Miranda’ by Seaview Prince Charming entered by R J Grenham of Boars Head Farm, Crowborough, East Sussex realised 2350 gns and was sold to Mr S Gummow, Higher Killiworgie Farm, Newquay, Cornwall.
A draft sale from the ‘Deerhurst’ herd saw a top price of 2300gns (twice) for a 2004 born Cow ‘Deerhurst Rosebud’ and her July born heifer calf with another 2007 born cow and bull calf realising the same money.
The ‘Atlow’ reduction sale saw 2500gns (twice) for Atlow Rhonda (Born 2004) with her June born heifer calf and Atlow Topaz (born 2006) with her May born bull calf. Atlow Autumn a 13 month old maiden heifer realized 1650 gns.
The Burytown production sale saw maiden heifers selling up to 1550gns for a Corskie Radium daughter.
Bulls met a selective trade with the top call being 2500 gns for ‘Chapman Apollo’ a Heywood Statesman son from D Bush of Cirencester.
The Male Champion ‘Sway Angus’ entered by Mr. and Mrs. S. L. Blomfield of Lymington Hants realised 2300gns and was sold to T Hammett, Jarvis Hayes, Exeter.
